Tidus is the main character of Final Fantasy X. A pro Blizter playing for the Zanarkand Abes, Tidus inhabits the city known to him as Zanarkand, but which is, in reality, the Dream Zanarkand summoned by Yu Yevon. Tidus is an impulsive and energetic young man, who plays Blitzball despite the lack of support from his father Jecht, whom Tidus hated and who disappeared 10 years before the events of Final Fantasy X.
In Final Fantasy X
At the start of Final Fantasy X, we are introduced to Tidus, making his way to a Blitzball stadium. During the game, a monstrous creature known as Sin attacks Zanarkand, destroying parts of it. Tidus meets his mentor, and friend of Jecht, Auron, with whom he is taken inside Sin. Tidus awakens in a mysterious Submerged Temple, where he is salvaged by the mysterious Al Bhed. Tidus learns that Zanarkand was destroyed 1000 years beforehand, and becomes confused. The ship is attacked by Sin, and Tidus again falls into the sea, this time washing up on Besaid Island, where he meets Wakka, a fellow Blitzer. It is in Besaid that Tidus meets the summoner Yuna, with whom he shares an instant connection. Tidus joins Yuna, along with Guardians Wakka, Lulu and Kimhari, on the SS Winno to reach Luca, where, the guardians believe, he may find someone he knows - and he does, becoming reunited with Auron, who becomes a guardian of Yuna. Eventually, Tidus is accepted as a guardian and is instrumental in helping Yuna break the Spiral of Death and defeat Sin once and for all. However, during the journey, it is discovered that Tidus (along with his Zanarkand) are Dreams of the Fayth and will disappear along with Sin.
In Final Fantasy X-2
Tidus remains an important element of the plot in Final Fantasy X-2. Yuna becomes a Sphere Hunter after Rikku shows Yuna a sphere containing someone looking like Tidus. Although this turns out to be Shuyin, it is still possible for Tidus to return in X-2, when a certain ending is achieved.
Overdrives and Sphere Grid
Tidus uses the Swordplay overdrive, whereby he uses sword techniques to devastate one or more opponents. More damage is done if the R1 button is pressed in the middle of a meter.
Tidus' section of the Sphere Grid concentrates on agility and evasion, with strength and defense being secondary. Tidus learns speed-related White Magic spells as well as agility-related skills. On completion of his section, Tidus moves into Yuna's section of the Grid at a midway-through stage. Tidus is generally the fastest in the team (aside from Rikku) and one of the strongest. Tidus' ability to caste Haste and Hastega prove vital during the game's later stages, though his relatively low MP (until he completes his section of the Grid) mean that a good stock of Ethers should be kept.
