Al Bhed

The Al Bhed are a cultural group in Final Fantasy X and Final Fantasy X-2. They are shunned and outcast by the rest of Spira, because they use forbidden machina, forbade by [Yevon]] throughout Spira, claiming that it was what brought Sin. The Al Bhed have been the subjects of persecution by the entire world due to their open criticism and opposition towards Yevon and its teachings, and have only found a permanant Home on the desert of Bikanel Island.

The only known differences between the Al Bhed and other humans are their swirled eyes, which may or may not be genetically predisposed. The Al Bhed dress often with goggles (possibly to hide their eyes) and contemporary straps and leather, normally being easily spotted. Many are also known to have blonde or no hair. They also have their own fictional language, which is actually a substitution cypher (switching letters for letters). The vast majority of Al Bhed work salvaging ancient machina, often from beneath the seas of Spira, where they face constant battle with Sin. Some work maintaining and developing these machina into functional things, although most Al Bhed are skilled in both salvage and repair. Notably, the Al Bhed salvage the airship from beneath Baaj Temple at the start of FFX.
